Concerning Iraq, Germans show a very deep hypocrisy. When Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, which was a clear casus belli, the whole of Europe supported the war to throw him out. Not so the good Germans: After it became known that Germany had provided Saddam Hussein with poisonous gas and had made out of his regime the biggest possessor of this WMD, Germans took to the streets in mass protests. But they protested not against the invader, they protested against the US and Israel! Israel was not involved at all in this war but was hit by dozens of Iraqi missiles, whose range had been extended by Germany especially for that purpose. The German taxpayer had to pay for this special type of morale by sending subs to Israel free of charge. It is known in history since then as chequebook-diplomacy.
