The grand rabbi from Tsfat is indeed fit for the position of Chief Rabbi. He matches the position and the rabbinic establishment perfectly. I don't think anyone in Israel has any moral or ethical expectations of the Rabbinate. So why shouldn't he be considered fit? It's a perfect match!
