He has done an excellent job on security and on the economy, the latter despite all of the traps and constraints contrived by the government. He, and Abbas, have done everything that was asked, and in so doing have proved that there is no intention of Israel ever allowing a peaceful transition to independence. Is there any point in him staying on? It is hard not to be cynical! Can it really be that the Israeli government is manoeuvring towards an Islamic power in Palestine, which will swing the islamophobic western nations back behind them again?
