Amos Oz's underlying intention is to say that the country run by the Labor party was a far better one than the country that came into being after the 'Mahapach' of 1977. Shtrasler is correct in pointing out to the unfairnesses, shortages and scarcities that existed in the early years of the state. Israel has become in the past three decades a far far more prosperous place than it was then. Unfortunately the point about increasing gaps between the very wealthy and the rest is also correct. Israel does need economic change and reform, but it certainly does not need to go back to the situation of several decades ago.
