A well written and balanced article by the author. I would like to inform Mr Strenger that the Muslim world has grown so huge and there are so many sects in it with their own internal differences, that it would be practically impossible for any Caliph to have a complete hold over such vast numbers of people spread across two continents. So I do not ever see a return to the Caliphate of the past. The need of the present age is for people of all faiths to work for the common good of humanity, rather than engage in land thefts, discrimination and sowing of discord between different nations. Whoever does it irrespective of his religion (Muslim, Jew, Christian or Hindu) is a threat to world peace.
