No smart intelligence agency puts any reliability in information obtained under torture, and most especially under severe torture. Read any medieval textbook and one will learn of the truly barbaric tortures inflicted upon Jews and other non-Christians by Christian soldiers and peasants. We are talking about a level of pain that is unbelievable. There are always going to be some who will 'break' sooner than others, but eventually nearly everyone succumbs to severe torture and will say just about anything to stop the pain. There were even Jews who renounced Judaism merely to obtain a quicker death, under these brutes. To conclude that someone did a crime to which he / she 'confessed' under such extreme duress is to ignore not the subtle findings of Elizabeth Loftus and others on memory for crimes but to ignore the most obvious explanation in favor of the most baseless speculation. Using such 'logic,' one could conclude just about anything. This academic seems like a big fool-at best!
