As a British student, currently studying in Jerusalem, who is proud of his Jewish heritage, and is able to live in a Jewish State, I am disturbed by the inflammatory and contentious remarks made by Neri Livneh in the article, 'In the name of the Grandson'. The assertion that Judaism can easily be turned into a 'loaded gun at the goyim' and that 'Judaism is racism', directly contradicts the fact that many religious Jews, such as those here in the Old City of Jerusalem, are able to live peacefully and with tolerance toward their non-Jewish counterparts. The legitimacy of the State of Israel lies with its Jewish identity, the state that Herzl founded it as, the Jewish homeland that for centuries Jews living in Diaspora yearned for. To argue that citizens do not wish to be defined as such, is misrepresentative of the Jews living in this country. Furthermore, Jews who desire to live according to Torah observance do not deserve to be demonised, or lampooned by a writer who masquerades 'anti-Jewish' sentiment as political enlightenment. Livneh's remarks can only be construed as Anti-Semitism, in its basest form, and is reminiscent of the anti-semitic publications of Weimar Germany, and other 20th Century European nations. Nations that Livneh lauds for their enlightenment. Yours,
