The Peace Treaty between Israel and Egypt neutralized Egypt as a military player in a ground war. Accordingly, it has been, since 1979, impossible for Syria to fight any sort of credible war with Israel, even as the loser. As the far largest army in the region of the far most populous country, it is only with Egypt's participation could there be a true Syrian ground war military option. The Yom Kippur war demonstrated that even if eventually losing, that Egypt and Syria, in collaboration with each other, could inflict damage on Israel, militarily and morally. As far as UNDOF is concerned, their presence did give the armistice international credibility and did, nevertheless, place some sort of authority between the two sides which deterred war and prevented potential minor altercations from esculating. By the way, Israel or "Jews" do not depend on themselves for their security. They depend on the United States of America, its arm shipments, sales and military aid, and its diplomatic cover. Without all the, "Jews depending on themselves" would be revealed to be nothing by an empty ideological slogan.
