The only logical conclusion is that the Gaza blockade is less to do with halting smuggling (the open Rafah crossing renders this moot) and everything to do with collective punishment. Israeli citizens may wish the Hamas threat to go, but for the Israeli government, thriving on fear and emergency, and the IDF - hamas is really rather useful.
