the behavior of individual soldiers under stress often strays into the illegal. vandalism, pilfering, abusing citizens is common, and the IDF, being human is not immune. those violations should be investigated and due punishment meted out promptly. Instead, the country seems to want to bury the Goldstone report and any self investigation because there is probably broader guilty behaviour on the top levels. Even Goldstone acknowledges Hamas was the caus of the war, and Israel, if anythinr, erred on the side of too much restraint too long. But from the beginning there was indecision and bungling, reflected initially on the ban on journalists which itself became detrimental to israels image. Israel lost the propaganda war from the beginning, and the blame and shame belongs on the door step of the political and command leadership: barak, bibi, ashkenazy. delaying an investigation only compounds the shlumper image the government is projecting.
