As a American of Jewish descent, and having lived in Germany, and a lawyer, Grass's argument is obscured by critics who cite World War II, charges of antisemitism, history, etc. Grass states very simply that saber-rattling --- especially with nuclear weapons -- is less a deterent than a threat to innocents. Whether Grass says it, or anyone else says it, is irrelevant. It has to be said --- especially to those who hold the swords. Let's not muzzle free debate --- regardless of the source of opinion.
