I don't think that there are a lot of people out there, even on the other side of Israeli borders, who will blindly and mercilessly kill civilians. Even in Hamas. That's left to Qaddafi and Ali Abdullah Saleh. Making Hamas legit strips it of its ability to support militias and to attack and just return to its hiding places, as those hiding places will be public, and therefore will cease to be hiding places. I just don't know why this far-right paranoia is so prevalent in Israel. There are many intelligent people over there, I just have no idea why they rarely make it into office. The only way out and the only chance for peace stems from empathy and an ability to envision the people on the other side of the border as human beings with the same needs. I don't think that a lot of people will complain if they can send their children to school while being 100% sure that their children will come back home, and this applies both to Israeli and Palestinian parents. This paranoia and all the tricks that those in power on both sides employ to extend their power are just sickening. Aggression, whether frank or passive (withholding money, making Gazans die out of thirst or live in eternal darkness) will just help destroy Israel's image and credibility in the mind of all humanity. The world will recognize the Palestinian state within a couple of years. Time is running out. I also have no idea why all Israeli newspapers actually select the comments that will be published and go beyond simple moderation that makes sure that submitted comments don't incite hatred. This is censorship, pure and simple.
