Regarding Meshal's statement, it was very craftily worded. Of course I would like to think he is "recognizing" the STATE of Israel. But what he said is that he accepts the reality of a state or ENTITY called Israel on Palestinian land. Much can be made from this statement. It is not at all clear that he could not say that he meant a non-state entity, a canon or district, called Israel might exist within a Palestinian STATE.
