From the newspaper accounts of the present military action, and from the Iraq war from the beginning, it has become clear to me that the current tactics of both Israel and the US are inappropriate for the current situation. A terrorist group cannot be fought on the terrorists' terms. Both Israel and the US must fight on the only terms that will bring success. Israel seeks peace; the US seeks regime and governmental change. In order for Israel to defeat Hezbollah, it should have acted like a military on the Western Front in World War One, except with Airpower as the first step. Draw a line 5 miles over the border. First, airpower bombs everything it can find. Then artillery follows up to detroy everything the air force missed. Finally, the infantry and armor act like a big grinder: nothing remains after they get through. As they advance, the artillery continues to send shells over their heads to continue to pound. Detroy everything: every home, every farm, etc. Then repeat. And repeat.
