"You could call it tribalism," he says." -Ellenson The problem with the non-Orthodox is that they stake their claim on the philosophical assumptions of the European Enlightenment and Modernity. Both the Enlightenment and Modernity have brought us horrific wars and beastial carnage. How much damage by comparison has the performance of the Mitzvot brought the world? Certainly Solievichek or Rambam were both intellectuals AND religious. Tribalism does not equal traditional religion. If anything its the opposite- secular modernity, including Reform, has taken all stops off of whatever sinful behaviours people want to commit! Also, please do not equate traditional Judaism with traditional Islam or Christianity. These are different outlooks with different expectations and realities for their followers!
