The Labor party will soon have to leave the coalition since no real peace process is going on, and Labor's public shame is increasing by the day. When Labor leaves, the coalition will have 61 extremists with no possibility to be flexible, so new elections will have to be called. The bad news: The Right is ascendant right now since Obama and the EU did not yet apply pressure that would be felt by the electorate, so the present coalition parties will gain MORE seats. Question: If so, why is Netanyahu trying to avoid new elections? Answer: Lieberman. Lieberman gained prestige so far, by being true to his "inner soviet" self, while Netanyahu is not very admired since he is seen as a wishy washy man. There is then the danger that Lieberman will garner too many additional votes to make Nutty Yahoo look like the loser. Yahoo will go to elections with a happy heart if Lieberman gets indicted (and thrown out of the political system). But elections may be near, so what will happen? There are a few possibilities: 1. At the last moment, Netanyahu will come to his senses and replace Lieberman by Livni. No elections, and a peace deal will be possible./ 2. Elections, and Likud comes out the majority party. Netanyahu decides to push for a peace agreement and brings Kadima and Labor in instead of Lieberman. 3. The present coalition remains in power, either under Netanyahu or Lieberman. No peace deal for the duration, and Israel continues her international slide towards a pariah state status./ Based on experience, I think the 3rd possibility is the most probable.
