Like Mess. Derfner of the Jerusalem Post, Hagai Elad is confusing issues by not distinguishing between the attack on Goldstone and arguments regarding Cast Lead and Gaza in general. The Goldstone Report was excoriating on its own merits (or lack thereof), without reference to Goldstone's integrity (or lack thereof). Goldstone basically proved his own lack of integrity first by accepting a position which put a Jew in the inappropriate situation of either knuckling under to Arab pressure in the UN or else being attacked for protecting Israel as a Jew. Goldstone should have recused himself, period. But worse, Goldstone then proceeded to conduct a scandalous "investigation" which basically took heresay as fact, which made no attempt to compare Israeli actions to those of other countries having to fight in civilian areas, which made no attempt to contact private individuals or NGO's supportive of Israel, and perhaps most scandalously, absolved the Gazan gov't by blaming any possible terrorism on phantom militant groups that cannot be held accountable - a very old game that the Palestinian leadership (Fatah & Hamas) keeps playing because people who should know better keep falling for it. Anyway, when the report broke about Goldstone's hypocrisy (blaming soldiers who followed orders while absolving himself because he had to follow orders), it was just the icing on the cake of indignation. The revelations removed any doubts about the utter absence of Goldstone's integrity. However, they never were the basis of rejecting the Goldstone Report. I think El-Ad knows that, but it's part of the rhetoric to attack and deflect rather than answer the tough questions - which makes El-Ad a bit of a hypocrite himself when he pontificates about answering questions. Hopefully, El-Ad and others of the far Left will stop their own hypocritical attacks on the Right and start answering the real questions: Was the GR conducted with integrity.
