Egypt ios a signatory to both the United Nations 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and the 1967 Protocol. Most, if not all of these refugees entered via Egypt, which they transited, where they were not persecuted and did not apply for refugee status. The refugees should be returned to Egypt and aply for status there as it was the first safe countery they entered and transited. This would not violate the non-refoulment provison of the traty and protocol. It is time to hold Egypt responsible for its treaty obligations. Of course they give it lipservice. If they are not forced to comply with their treaty obligations, do you expect them to honor other treaties, the Camp David Accords, for example?
