Falsely obtaining a passport is a crime anywhere. It is irrelevant what the purpose may have been. What possible justification can there be for seeking to interfere with Germany’s right to defend the integrity of its passport system? As for “leaking” details of the EAW to Der Spiegal, such arrest warrants are not secret and publishing information on high profile matters is what a free press is for. If Israel involves itself in such an obviously internal German matter then what could be dealt with as a fairly straightforward fraud offence will acquire the potential to be a can of worms.
