I agree with Mr. Shalev's sentiments, but describing East Jerusalem's Salah a-Din Street's shops as "decrepit, crumbling or simply abandoned" and describing the neighbourhood as "filth and the grime," with "garbage that hasn’t been collected in days, the sidewalks that haven’t been scrubbed in years" is really a bit extreme. I'm a Canadian who has walked down Salah a-Din Street dozens of time over the last few years and I've always find it quite interesting and enjoyable. Perhaps Mr. Shalev has spent too much time in the Mamilla Mall.
