The "supreme goal" is the safety and security of Israeli citizens. If there is a one-time unilateral withdrawal there should be no further negotiations on territory with the Palestinians. It is that which would be rewarding them for their terrorism and intrasigence. Let us see the absence of war for a generation or two first. Beilin has the bad habit of believing that he is negotiating by article when he is only talking with himself. I doubt Hamas' considerations turn on his every word. Beilin reminds me of an Israeli Jimmy Carter, and we know how Iran turned out as a result of Carter's pious self regard and tunnel vision.
