Politics for Hiz, Syria, Al Qaida, Iran etc.. is very simple: We are good, the Jews are very bad, the US is great Satan, UGA UGA UGA... In a democracy where there are thousands of subleties and interests at stake things are much more complex. Olmert was not prepared for this conflict and vacilated a lot between giving a harsh response, being careful to minimize Israeli loss of life, doing an effort not to isolate Israel in the international cenario, being a trustworthy ally of the americans. It is a very hard situation to be in and I think that he did as well as he could within his limitations. After all it's not nice to spit in the plate we ate, most Israeli's voted in him, or what he represented: a viable peace. If the Shiite entity did everything it could to prevent it from happening, will we give them the victory? If we degenerate into more and more conflict we will be playing Oh-no-medjad's plan.
