Israeli Ambassdador (Levy) in Turkey: "He's a fundamentalist. He hates us religiously and his hatred is spreading"// US Ambassador (Jeffrey) in Turkey: "Our discussions with contacts both inside and outside of the Turkish government on Turkey's deteriorating relations with Israel tend to confirm Levy's thesis that Erdogan simply hates Israel"// This is reported in a leaked document, dated October 29, 2009. If this assessment is true, how come Erdogan was such a good friend to Israel in the 6 preceding years since he cam to power in 2003? There was growing trade, growing tourism, and Turkey even mediated between Israel and Syria. So what happened to change the relationship? Did Erdogan suddenly become more pious? I suggest we listen to Turkey. Their complaint about Israel is the way the Gazans are treated, and were treated during Cast Lead, in late December 2008. Goldstone the Jew also complained about it, so perhaps(!) there are objective grounds for complaints. We know how things deteriorated from there. 1. Harsh criticism by Turkey, and a moview there showing Mossad in bad light. 2. The House of Lieberman puts Turkey in the "low chair". 3. Turkey allows the flotilla of protestors to set sail from its port. 4. Israel kills 9 Turkish prtestors. 5. Turkey demands an apology and compensation. 6. Israel says: No way, Jose. I don't see any Fundamentalism here, only self-righteousness and inept diplomacy. And they both reside on the Israeli side.
