How different is the Israeli Government's "ideologically biased bureaucracy" from other nations? You'll be surprised to hear that at my public education system in Canada, a Provincial Ministry of Education document, specifically states that all teaching institutions should follow the value system / beliefs of the Judeo/Christian faith. Yup - there you have it - a document which spells out what ideological teachings we elementary and secondary teachers should abide by. That's distinctly omitting the Muslim, Sikh or Buddist faiths, who are also large sectors of students in a number of regions where I teach. One could argue that this is discriminatory, but perhaps a nation wants its value system clarified despite its democratic, liberal inclusive stance. The only nation-state which characterizes itself as Jewish, from a religious and national perspective, Israel, perhaps has some legitimacy in doing so since its value system has been adopted by other nations as well. Freedom of religion also means that its citizenry can be of another religion, athiest, agnostic and secular.
