Do not politicians automatically expose themselves to a higher standard of conduct when they run for, or accept, public office? This is an action THEY take, which gives them great power and authority, and thus do they not also take upon themselves a higher standard of conduct? Or are those who aspire to the public trust only expected to conform to the least acceptable standards?
