I really don't see what the Turks are trying to do. This is a political power play- which they are very good at- and is aimed at securing gas fields which they have no claim to even if the 'TRNC' was magically legitemised tomorrow, and to set them as a leader of the Sunni world post- revolution. Great, but instead of pushing around us (Cyprus) they are trying to force the hand of Israel, a US company acting legally, and in a sense the EU. There is no moral or legal high grounds for Turkey on this one, but since when does that matter- the question is where US support will land, pure and simple. I doubt it will come to (serious) blows, I cannot see either country sending troops into the other where it will be a bloodbath, and with both airforces being well developed there will be a lot of thought before any air strikes. Has Erdogan flown too close to the sun, or is he a master politician? I think it's the former, but let's wait and see. In any event, the further they shove Cyprus into close cooperation with Israel, the better it is for us (Cyprus).
