1. There have been no clinical trials of the version of the vaccine produced by Glaxo Smith Kline. Instead, authorities relied on trials of the previous manufacturer. Clinical trials test a few hundred or thousand children. But millions of doses of this specific vaccine have been used throughout the world since 2009, and it has shown to be safe. 2. From 1990 to 2004, every child got 3 doses of the OPV. That version included a more dangerous strain that is not included in the current version. The issues with hygiene and immuno-compromised patients were exactly the same as they are now. Yet over 14 years there was not a single case of polio associated with the OPV. The hysteria is unwarranted. Yedioth has an excellent article presenting a different side, that Israel was too conservative and should have started the OPV campaign sooner.
