I spent my youth in Catskills up to age 22, when I was working at the resorts as a teen director or day camp director. When I first saw "Dirty Dancing" I wondered if the book's author had spent the same time in the same place as I had. Sad to say there was no interracial activity. Socially, we were all Jewish looking for mates etc. The towel on the door did ring true. Most of the time it meant that you wanted night patrol for your kids. There were other things in the movie that were not accurate.Of course, now that I am past dissecting it, it is one of my favorites.
