Assuming that Israel wants peace, they should engage in direct talks with Hamas. These talks should not be made in the public eye. And due to the continued rocket attacks coupled with concerns that Hamas may use a cease fire to "rearm", the talks should commence without declaring a cease fire. That said, neither party should conduct peace talks in the media, unless their primary motives are "good public relations", rather than peace.
