Enough with the deterrence already. Don't you know that Israel lost the 2006 war big time? The only deterrence resulting from that war was when Israel fired their chief of staff, their minister of defence, and six other generals and then established the Winograd committee to pass around more blame. After the end of that war, Hizbollah rapidly rearmed through Syria while Israeli overflights monitored and did nothing. Who was deterred? The reality of the post 2006 war is two fold. (1) The surprisingly good performance of Hizbollah against the IDF gained for Hizbollah a major boost in political clout in Lebanon. They have been consolidating their power in Lebanon. (2) Hizbollah (and Hamas) are avoiding any major action pending the completion of Iran's nuclear program. Both groups are on "standby" in the case of an Israeli attack upon Iran. The fact that Hizbollah is ready for action helps "deter" Israel from an increasingly unlikely attack on Iran.
