Even the most sympathetic commentators fear Fatah's defeat and near marginalization of 3rd party politics may destaballize the peace negotiation, or what was left of it. Perhaps there is a deeper lesson here. All accounts have celebrated the success of the electoral process despite the grueling conditions of military occupation, in light of this we may infer that for the most part there is little popular support for the basic premeses of the talks. For example, quite clearly Israel and the West in so far as it wishes to consider an obviously still relevant issue, will have to reopen the book on th right of return.
