Egypt has a supposed Democracy, with more than one candidate for President, but the same group continues to rule. In any case, the scenario in my post is that Israel invades Syria and even occupies Damascus. It creates a new Democratic regime (say, like the one in Iraq), but they will also want the Golan back, and get it. What will happen to that regime in the longer run? Let me see what is happening in Iraq and I will let you know, but I have no confidence it will last very long. Conclusion: Make peace with the devil you know, not with the one you don't know.
