When democracies wage war the freedom of its citizens becomes limited. Preseident Lincoln became a a military dictator under the war powers act. FDR imprisoned Japanese Americans during WW2 because they were Japanese. Senator MaCarthy is reviled because he used the paranoia surrounding the Cold war to impose fear on all citizens rightfully accused or not. Israel's problem is because it has been in a near state of constant war, often framed by a rationale portrayed in George Orwell's "1984", the state creates a perpetual war thereby allowing democratic freedoms to be supressed in the name of security.
