Europeans began colonizing the Americas following the “discovery” by Columbus. Unfortunately, the Europeans learned nothing concerning ecological values from the Indians, who came as immigrants some 10,000 years earlier, and who preserved nature in its pristine state for the “new immigrants” in 1492. Now who, today, would excuse what the Europeans did in the Americas not only to the Indians but also to the land? The “higher civilized” immigrant-colonists also brought slavery to the Americas---nothing for which Americans can be proud of today. Now, in the 19th and 20th century it became quite evident that the effects of imperialism, the mother of colonialism, exploitation, and slavery, produced many disintegrating consequences like, oppression and poverty in the exploited communities, and wars---in the U.S., the Civil War, and in Europe WWI, and WWII. Ideologies are rationalizations designed for self-serving interests of the few who believe that they have a God-given right to exploit the many. One would think that in the 21st century humans including Israelis and Americans would have learned something from history.
