I wish you a very speedy recovery and hope, the issue of war and peace will leave you some days of vacation during our christian holiday. It's a pity most of the European media still doesn't recognize the important role you've gained by LEADING in an environment where leadership seems to be a rarity (see Arafat, see Abu Mazen: what a disappointment and failure!). For my experience most Germans don't bother to deal with the details of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. That's too complicated a thing. People like it the simple way: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The Ugly, that was Arafat, clear. In the sixties the good were the Israelis, because it was a fascinating experience to see a new state being founded in the "desert". But since a significant number of German university students wore palestinian headscarfs around their necks in the seventies the role of the good has been taken by the Palestinians in the eyes of many here. In the media its always the Israelis who do the bad things: If Palestinians kill an Israeli and the IDF kills a Palestinian in response, the news in the media is: "The Israelis killed a Palestinian." There's still much to do for Israeli Public Relations in Germany and Europe. Sharons disengagement from the Gaza Strip has been the first Israeli news for decades to burst through the wall of European resentment over the "occupiers".Sharon made a good beginning to counter the Palestinian propaganda onslaught of everlasting hereditary victimhood.
