Extract the historical and spiritual revisionist ideology that the Palestinians were weaned and nurtured on, help them get over their jealousy of Israeli accomplishments and actually do something constructive about it like educating themselves on State building instead of whining and easily resorting to violence, and help rid them of their corrupt, militant leaders who lead them astray year after year, decade after decade in a losing battle with the Israelis. You've never been to Gaza to see what a beautiful, desirable stretch of Mediterranean coastline real estate it is. Even if grandmothers from Hadassah were tasked with the building up of Gaza for the Palestinians and with the stewardship of the billions of sacrificial aid that poured in over the decades to build the infrastructure of a State for them you would see admirable results by now with not a penny left over for uneeded arms. But alas, the Palestinians and their disingenous leaders are greedy and want it all as they find it anathema to share the area with a Jewish State that their Islam beliefs claim has been supplanted and relegated to the dustbins of history. Yes some of the Israeli treatment of them has been harsh in response but the dark cloud following the Palestinians and raining heavily on their parade is mostly self-seeded. Approach the Israelis in real peace and watch with great wonder how quickly they'll help the Palestinians achieve their aims, as long as it's a Palestinian State existing aside the State of Israel, not instead of it.

Why we don't know how to pick our leaders

Our craving for ideology means that we are partial to ideological leaders. But we need leaders who will make smart decisions that are aligned with the public interest.
