First, 3,000 yrs ago, Jerusalem and the Jews, is a real exageration, but one has come to expect nothing less from this blowhard. Of course Jerusalem is central to the Jewish collective memory. No one in their right mind would dismiss that except for propaganda purposes, but that is not the point. We are talking about a secular state that needs to share its capital with anohter people who also have a deep history in it and attachment to it. Jerusalem is unique in that regard. It does not beling to only one people or religion but to all who hold it sacred. Your statement about Christians fleeing Bethlehem has almost everything to do with the Israeli occupation and not loss of religious freedom under Muslims. Ask the Bethlehemites. Jerusalem must be shared or their will be no peace. Israel is impeding peace by its adament refusal to admit the palestinians attachement to Jerusalem.
