The term of office was not established because of fears of usurpation of power. The two year term limit established in 1947 was not established because of fear of a dictatorship either. The constitution is what prevents a dictatorship. Of course term limits are not the only thing that make a democracy.- David Israel Term limits are not a prerequisite for a democracy. A democracy can have impromptu elections that are not periodic if it wants. Does Israel have term limits? I am unaware of any western country that has term limits like America does.
