You forget the infrastructure of the State of Israel was solid enough by beginning of WWII that it was able to supply the Allies with materiel so that they weren't as dependent on what had to be shipped in from "the West". Yes, Vrginia, the Jews of Mandatory Palestine were generating their own capita Perhaps not "as much" as it would be to make them an economic or miliary power, but enogh to create a both a local market and export thier goods outside of the Mandate. Just as today, the State of Israel may have its political issues, but it's good enough for S & P. If I recall reading lately the industrial infrasstucture of the United States is not what it used to be. The bottom line is that it may have taken longer for the Jewish State to get where it is now, but it had the underpinnings of a modern industrial nation several decades before the Yishuv was fully indepedent.
