Of course 'Israel has every right to exist and to defend itself'. Just the same as any other nation (including Palestine). Nobody is arguing otherwise. But he core issue is surely that a chunk of Arab land was taken from them unilaterally by the UN and handed to another people of a different religion. 800,000 fled or were booted out and their homes and land were seized, without a dime's compensation. It is no wonder there has been conflict and resentment ever since. 60 years on, the Arab League has said it will end the conflict and welcome Israel into the Middle East community as an equal. Even Hamas and Hezbollah have their hands tied by that. There has never been a better opportunity to reach some kind of sensible accord that permits Israel to live in peace. But that requires Israel to give something too, it cannot just keep taking land and expanding and demanding ever more of others. It is time now for a more pragmatic and generous approach by Israel surely?
