Comrade Commissar, I understand your worry about Hamas. They are an ideological cousin of the Islamic Brotherhood in Egypt. Islamic Jihad is an offshoot of IB. I mention this so that it should be clear to all that their victory is not a given. In fact, as we look at the recent past, Israeli oppression is what made Hamas stronger. They became much stronger in Gaza recently relative to the PA. They are not corrupt, like the Taliban. They are tough. Their religion enables them to accept death willingly. But they too are subject to the normal forces that act on other societies. Egypt, using suppression, did not succeed in eradicating their IB. They went underground. The open air and sunlight are better disinfectants. Their government obligations in Gaza and need to run the place will do to them what these do to every government. You worry that once they get power they will establish a theocracy. I wouldn't worry. Remember the Taliban? And Israel is not a half world away as the US was. My conclusion is that there is no need to worry too much. Things will be under the control of Big Brother, Winston. (Winston is the character from 1984. Good way to close the Commissar note.) BG
