That Hamas will be moderating under the pressures of the need to govern and provide for their people, is not astonishing. It was predicted by the few of us who are aware of the evolutionary process under "enviromental" pressures. So far, all the known hardliners, including Zahar and Meshal, have already talked about a recognition of Israel (under some scenario). At some near point, this idea will become official policy. Israel can wait for this dreaded moment (since the present regime thinks it will get more by unilateral moves), or act now and get better terms. We have a partner already, Abbas. The terms Abbas will agree to will probably be more comfortable to Israel than what Hamas would insist on. There is no escaping negotiations, Israel. Bush already announced that the final borders must be agreed to by both sides, not unilaterally. My peace plan: Negotiate a deal with Abbas, then have new PA elections. (The peace party wins.)
