ONCE UPON A TIME, I almost followed a woman to the moon, but again I did not have the appropriate foot-wear. The Clans also protect a well worn lifestyle. It alolows for alpha-males to play their role, without the influence of women. Many males enjoy their primordial leadership in the family and politics. Women as well have their roles. It is important to undestand the role of honor and humiliation. Sure even America society holds to some traditional systems of honor. But here it is magnified. At times in my discussions with my Arab mates, it is like inching through a mine field. Off-hand colored jokes can get you in trouble, and my unfamiliarity with the liberalization of the other leads me to wonder where the borders of free discussion and bad taste stand. The Clan society is very much a boy's club, the men's locker room. I have always had great respect for the balancing act of ying-yang, male-female, which leads often to compromise and understanding.
