"Despite wonderful imaging technology, keep in mind that the intentions at hand are much more important than offensive or defensive postures." - D Understood. I presume from the information in the article and other sources that Syria is seeing some offensive preparations. Were it seeing offensive preparations on it's borders it might well be deploying in depth, but there is no indication of that at this point. "Suppose that Israel has an offensive position in the Golan, but in fact the only intention is to get Syria frightened, thus possibly impacting the diplomatic front, etc. This is conceivable, right?" - D I repeat, there is no indication that Syria sees a threat, just a potential of a threat. "Yet the images won`t pick any of it up. That`s why signals intelligence is held in high esteem." - D I am quite aware of sigint, comint, and traffic analysis. I doubt Israel would use the radio communications when more secure means of communications exist and could easily be used.
