A bit of misinformation here: 1. Jerusalem was not built by Jews hundreds of years before the birth of Mohammed, but by locals around 4,000 years ago, original name being Urušalim or the foundation or city of the Canaanite god Shalem. 2. Jerusalem has thrice been the capital of a Jewish state: from approximately 1000 B.C.E. to 586 B.C.E. (414 years), from 152 BCE to 70 CE (222 years), and from 132 CE to 135 CE (3 years) about 16% of its history. Not a lot of "always" here, is there. 3. As a sacred city - the center of faith - the first 1000 years of Jerusalem's history it was a center of the worship of the god Shalem. The first temple was built sometime after 970 BCE and was destroyed in 586 BCE (384 years), the second temple was built in 538 BCE and destroyed in 70 CE (608 years), thus Jerusalem was exclusively the center of Judaism for 998 years (almost as long as it was the center of worship of the god Shalem.) The Church of the holy sepulcher was originally built in 325 CE and still is a center of Christian worship (1687 years) and the Dome of the Rock was built in 691 CE and remains to this day an important sacred place to all the sects of Islam (1322 years). So, for the last 1687 years Jerusalem has been a holy city to 3 religions of Abrahamic origin.
