Israel wishes to depict itself as a bastion of liberal democracy and 'a light unto the nations'. Israelis must be prepared for criticism if actions of its government and citizens fail to meet the criteria associated with this claim. Such criticism cannot be depicted as anti-semitism or denial of the state's continued existance but rather than the desire for a just & peaceful solution to the 'Palestinan problem'. Clealry the intransigence and corruption throughout the Middle East does not help but somehow Israel must 'lead by example' as a liberal democracy. An initial case would certainly be demonstrable adherence to minority rights for its own non-jewish citizens.
