Admitting Turkey might be too costly for the EU. Would the EU want another member sucking down massive farm subsidies? The EU has problems with Greece cooking its books, Spain's economy is going down the tubes, and the UK is worried its zillionaire bankers might decamp for Iraq. How much would it cost to modernize the Anatolian economy? Even if admitting Turkey is the right thing to do, should it not wait until the EU economy turns around? And what about Cyprus?
