Ideally of course Israel should have good ties with Turkey. And there is much sense in Israel making an effort in that direction. But only to a point, and that point may have been passed. Groveling will not get us anywhere. The facts are somewhat different from outlined in this article. The terrorists on the boat to Gaza apparently had connection with and support from branches of the Turkish government. Erdogan shows a visceral hatred for Israel. Turkey has been moving away from the West and into closer connection with Iran and Syria for some time now. All this relates not only to the worldwide campaign and Islamist effort to delegitimize Israel but also to the sense that the U.S. Israel's one ally is withdrawing from the Middle East, and in decline.
