is a hindirance to peace but it is not illegal. The west bank and Jordan was under Jordanian rule and law. In 1967 Jordan attacked Israel after Israel sent messages to Jordan through Britain, USA begging Jordan to stay out of its war with Egypt and Syria, Jordan's Arab Legion opened hostilities against Israel and as a result Jordan lost the war and the territories. As long as Israel controlled the land and Jordan laid claim it was occupied territory and the laws of Jordan applied, however, when Jordan unilaterely gave up its claim over the territory and Israel was left in controll, then the laws of Israel come into effect and Israel becomes the legitimate government over the territory. If the citizens in the territory want independence they must negotiate with the legitimate government as has happened all over . east europe and in Sudan over the last 20 years. The problem is that the Palestinians want to take everything by force which they do not have. If Jordan didn't abandon the territories and was still in controll legally even if Israel had phisical controll, Israel woul be an occupying power.Jordan is actually rasponsible for the problems of the Palestinians
