are not the same. Russia has a problem today because it cannot collect taxes from the oligarchs. Much business is run like a mafia. If Russia could get some taxes, it could pay for welfare; many poor are in bad shape with no welfare because Russia cannot collect taxes. Their ideal was also that people were owned by the state, not only were the means of production owned by the state, but also the people; there was the slavery. Socialism only attempts to give poor people welfare programs. You can have socialistic welfare programs in a capitalistic society for those who cannot provide for themselves. It is more equitable, for govt. to give out aid then to depend on the rich people for charity, Capitalism's biggest evil is in its being a social conservative; not caring about the welfare of poor people and greedy in taking all the money for the rich. This led to revolution in the past. Somewhere in between these systems is a compromise. I don't see Obama as a communist. In fact, none of his socialistic programs went through because the Congress would not pass them, such as socialized medicine. You could say that he saved the country from a deeper depression by the stimulus package. The next Republican administration will only push more people into the poverty level. Unless you want your kid and uncle joe to keep from knocking on your door and asking for handouts, you better put some programs in place for them, includng jobs, jobs, jobs, education subsidies, healthcare subsidies, or forever they will be at your house living there. Why don't you just give them a job.
